smoothie
Posted: June 29, 2012 Filed under: food, thrifting | Tags: almus keramik, black, cat, danish modern, diamonds, healthy as a horse, PBN, pink, smoothies, svensk slojd, vintage glassware 2 Commentsin the same vein that i’ve never been a cat gal, i have also never been one to down a smoothie for breakfast. like, never. never went to an orange julius, never went to a jamba juice. ok, maybe once in the 80s i had an orange julius. me, i like the act of chewing food and swallowing food too much. why grind up chewable food in a blender? i would hear about people going on liquid diets and could never imagine such torture. i need the chomp, chomp, chomp satisfaction.
so a coupla few weeks ago i went on a raw foods diet, just as a way to drop a couple pounds and purge the bod a little. nothing dramatic, nothing drastic. i ate a ton of food. fruits, veggies, raw almond butter. and drank a ton of tea. ginger tea is my favorite and i don’t really like tea, but i do enjoy a ginger tea. and this is when i decided to invite the smoothie into my life for a little variety. not the “green drink” that i probably should be having every morning, with fresh veggies. i went the fruit route. bananas and blueberries and flax seed and some organic juice and ice cubes whipped up in my magic bullet.
turns out i like them.
i’d probably love them with rum or vodka, but so far haven’t experimented. i told you, i’m trying to purge. cleanse the highways and byways that run through the inner workings of this body of mine.
i’m pretty sure the main reason i like these smoothies is cuz i get to use the bigger vintage glassware i’ve collected and never use cuz i don’t normally like to drink out of big glasses. smoothies are MADE for vintage tumblers.
so, what’s that green candleholder in the background, i hear you asking.
when i picked it up to look at it in the thrift store i couldn’t believe when it said “denmark” on the bottom. not to mention it was dirt cheap. almus keramik. i’ll take it.
that’s it for me. i’m drinkin’ smoothies. earth shattering, i know.

cats.
not a fan.
not a cat girl.
never liked ’em.
never will.
and yet…
when overpriced goodwill puts a less-than-a-buck price tag on an aarikka finland wooden cat, somehow i gotta buy it.
cuz i’m greedy and won’t leave it for someone who really really IS a cat person.
i am slowly, but definitely surely, becoming an old cat lady.

Posted: June 9, 2012 Filed under: cocktails, thrifting | Tags: 70s, aztec, black and white, curtains, fish, foster grants, i love a good cocktail, salt and pepper, vintage cocktail glass 1 Commentthis week’s cocktail is a version of last week’s blueberry french 75, only it’s made with fresh raspberries and lime juice (instead of blueberries and lemon juice.)
1/2 fresh squeezed lime
1 oz gin
6 raspberries
a little sugar
prosecco or cava or champagne
muddle the raspberries and sugar in a shaker. add the gin and lime juice. throw a few ice cubes in to chill and shake gently. strain into a cocktail glass and top with your choice of bubbly (i used prosecco.) makes 1. and i’m tellin’ ya, one knocks me for a loop.
i went to the sundays only flea market this past weekend for inspiration purposes, as i have been uninspired as of late. i haven’t crafted anything in what seems like forEVER. unfortunately, i didn’t get much inspiration. i did, however, find a set of two handmade vintage curtain panels with one valance in a great black and white and gray triangles fabric for $3.
i bought them for the fabric only, but i’ll be darned, one panel happens to fit my back door, so i hung it.
why are you hanging curtains when you’re supposed to be packing up and moving, you ask? cuz i’m an idiot.
i also bought these:
they’re a tad danish-y and a tad teak-y, but then again, somethin’ ain’t quite right about them, either.
FISHIES.
whatever.
the price was right.
the sun has finally come out after a week of blech. i’ll be fighting the paparazzi glare with my flea market 70s foster grants. they’re GIGANTIC. and PERFECT.
